MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ:MVIS) said on October 15, 2026 that Overland AI had selected its IRIS long-range lidar sensor for integration into IBEX, the company’s recently launched next-generation fully autonomous ground vehicle.
Overland AI is developing IBEX for autonomous ground operations in demanding mission environments. The vehicle has a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds and can travel at speeds over 35 mph in full autonomy, according to the announcement.
The selection does not state that the sensor integration has been completed. MicroVision said IRIS is intended to strengthen IBEX’s perception capabilities through long-range detection, high-resolution environmental data and a compact design.
MicroVision said the sensor’s solid-state construction is designed for performance in off-road conditions. The IRIS system uses a 1550 nm wavelength, which the announcement said is invisible to night vision goggles.
The company described the sensor as providing the environmental information autonomous systems require to operate across changing terrain. The announcement identified accuracy, range and reliability as important requirements for lidar applications in demanding environments.
MicroVision CEO Glen DeVos said the IRIS selection for IBEX demonstrated the sensor’s capability and readiness for challenging defence environments.
Overland AI co-founder and chief operating officer Greg Okopal said IRIS supports the company’s work on autonomous ground capabilities and perception technology for demanding operational conditions. He added that component reliability and performance are critical when developing systems for harsh environments.
Overland AI was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It builds autonomous land systems for the United States and its allies, covering autonomy software, perception and manoeuvre systems, sensors, controls and in-house manufacturing.
The company is described as the first ground autonomy company to prime a production contract for the U.S. military.
MicroVision develops lidar-based perception solutions for industrial, security and defence, and automotive applications. Its portfolio includes short- and long-range lidar, solid-state sensors using different wavelengths, sensor architectures and open software solutions.
MicroVision said the announcement formed part of its continued expansion into security and defence applications. It identified autonomous vehicles, robotics and perimeter security among the areas where lidar can provide perception capabilities.
