Dolphin (NASDAQ:DLPN) has outlined 2026 activities involving its subsidiary Shore Fire Media and the estates of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and John Prine. The programme includes anniversary releases, cultural events, awards and a forthcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
#John Coltrane centennial programme
John Coltrane’s estate is marking what would have been the jazz musician’s 100th birthday on Sept. 23 through COLTRANE 100, a year-long international programme.
The activities include box sets, concerts, tribute events and listening sessions. The programme also features a capsule collection with Corridor, a Coltrane Cold Foam at Blue Bottle Coffee and a photo essay book edited by Ravi Coltrane.
Ravi Coltrane has taken part in interviews about his father’s work and legacy, while Coltrane’s centennial has also received coverage in music and general-interest media. The musician has additionally appeared in a series of Jeopardy! clues.
#Miles Davis centennial activities
The Miles Davis Estate and Reservoir (Nasdaq:RSVR) are coordinating a centennial programme for Davis, whose birthday was observed on May 26. The initiative brings together cultural institutions, brands and record labels, according to Dolphin.
Simon & Schuster has issued a centennial edition of Davis’ autobiography, “Miles”, with a new cover and forewords by Hanif Abdurraqib and Nas. A film titled “Miles & Juliette”, featuring Davis and Juliette Gréco, is forthcoming.
Media projects tied to the centennial have included interviews, a visual reference feature and discussions with Davis’ family members and musical collaborators.
#Fela Kuti receives posthumous recognition
Fela Kuti, the Nigerian musician associated with the creation of Afrobeat, is scheduled to be inducted posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles on Nov. 14. Dolphin describes him as the first African solo artist to receive the honour.
Kuti’s legacy has also been recognised through the 12-episode podcast series “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man”. The programme was among the 2026 Peabody Award winners in the arts category and received the 2026 Webby Award for best limited series in the podcasts category.
The Recording Academy has also given Kuti a lifetime achievement award. His children Femi Kuti, Yeni Kuti, Kunle Kuti and Shalewa Kuti accepted the award.
#John Prine tributes and label anniversary
John Prine’s 80th birthday celebrations included “Souvenirs: 80 Years of John Prine”, a sold-out concert at the Chicago Theatre on Oct. 8. The event brought together artists and fans and formed the central event in a series held from Oct. 7-11.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson declared Oct. 10 John Prine Day in the songwriter’s adopted hometown. Proceeds from the concert went to the Hello in There Foundation, which was established by the Prine family in 2021.
The foundation has provided nearly $1.5 million in community grants to more than 100 organizations working on issues including food insecurity, housing, mental health, immigrant and refugee justice and addiction recovery.
Oh Boy Records, the label founded by Prine, is marking 45 years in business in 2026. Earlier this month, it released “Found Dogs”, an archival collection connected to the 30th anniversary of Prine’s 1995 album “Lost Dogs + Mixed Blessings”.
