Brazil Potash Corp. has announced Sergio Leite as president of Potássio do Brasil Ltda., its wholly owned Brazilian subsidiary responsible for developing and constructing the Autazes Potash Project. The appointment was announced on December 2, 2025.
#Executive background
Brazil Potash said Leite brings ~40 years of executive experience across mining, steel, rail and port infrastructure in Brazil and internationally. The company also attributes to him experience operating industrial facilities and delivering projects with an aggregate value of nearly US$ 20 billion.
His previous roles included chief executive of Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém, a joint venture involving Vale S.A., POSCO and DongKuk. In that position, he led negotiations for a US$ 2,9 billion loan involving Brazil’s BNDES, Korean export credit agencies and a group of eight banks.
Leite also served as chief executive of BAFER - Bahia Ferrovias, where the company said he worked to obtain resources for railway infrastructure. His senior positions at Vale S.A. included operational director, chief executive of Vale Oman, and director of institutional relations and sustainability.
#Role in the Autazes project
Leite said he intended to draw on relationships with BNDES, other major banks, government authorities and international financial institutions to help secure the funding required to build the potash operation. The announcement does not state that financing for the project has been secured.
Brazil Potash is developing the Autazes Project to produce potash fertiliser for the Brazilian market. The company says Brazil imported more than 95% of its potash fertiliser in 2021, while also describing the country as having one of the world’s largest undeveloped potash basins.
#Planned production and logistics
According to Brazil Potash management, the project has planned initial production of up to 2,4 million tonnes per year. Management believes it could potentially supply approximately 20% of Brazil’s current potash demand and anticipates that 100% of the company’s production would be sold domestically.
The company says the potash would be transported mainly by river barges through an inland waterway system in partnership with Amaggi. Brazil Potash management also anticipates that the project could mitigate approximately 1,4 million tonnes per year of greenhouse-gas emissions.
#Risk disclosures
Brazil Potash said statements concerning Leite’s appointment and qualifications, project financing, construction progress, the planned development of Autazes and the expected benefits of the appointment are forward-looking statements. The company cautioned that these statements are subject to risks and uncertainties, many of which are outside its control.
The company referred readers to the risk factors in its amended Form F-1 registration statement filed with the SEC and its supplemented PREP prospectus filed in the Canadian provinces and territories other than Québec. It also cautioned readers against placing undue reliance on the forward-looking statements.
