Sun Peak Metals Corp. has reported assay results from its maiden diamond drilling program at the 100%-owned Halahila Project in Saudi Arabia. The 13-hole campaign covered 2,522 metres and tested the Halahila Main volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) target beneath a 650-metre-long surface gossan.
#Drilling results at Halahila Main
Nine of 13 holes intersected disseminated to massive sulphide mineralization within an altered volcanic sequence. Drilling examined the system from approximately 35 to 200 metres down dip from its surface expression.
Hole HAL26DD013 returned 16.5 meters averaging 2.23% zinc, 25.0 g/t silver, 0.43 g/t gold and 0.42% copper. The interval included 12.0 meters grading 2.75% zinc, 32.92 g/t silver, 0.55 g/t gold and 0.56% copper.
In Hole HAL26DD012, the company reported 14.7 meters averaging 2.64% zinc, 15.07 g/t silver, 0.52 g/t gold and 0.24% copper. Within that result, 6.0 meters averaged 4.89% zinc, 24.42 g/t silver, 0.62 g/t gold and 0.36% copper.
Hole HAL26DD001 returned 14.05 meters averaging 1.45% zinc, 10.59 g/t silver, 0.29 g/t gold and 0.19% copper. A 3.92-meter section within the interval averaged 4.88% zinc, 37.01 g/t silver, 1.01 g/t gold and 0.65% copper.
#Geological interpretation
Sun Peak described the mineralized zones as primarily zinc- and silver-rich, with associated gold and copper. The logged sulphide assemblage included pyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite, along with subordinate galena and possible silver-bearing sulphosalt minerals.
The drilling encountered volcanic rocks affected by chlorite and sericite alteration, with silica, carbonate and epidote veining and alteration. Sulphides occurred in disseminated and stringer forms as well as in semi-massive and massive intervals.
Holes HAL26DD012 and HAL26DD013 produced the broadest and strongest polymetallic intersections, according to the company. HAL26DD002 also intersected massive sulphide mineralization at 200 metres down dip, which was the deepest extent tested during the program.
#Halahila trend and potential follow-up work
The Halahila Main system remains open along strike and at depth within a broader VMS-related trend extending for more than 10 kilometres. The company said the initial drilling covered only a portion of the mineralized trend and tested only part of the Halahila Main gossan along strike.
Sun Peak is combining drill geology, geochemistry and geophysical information to refine a three-dimensional model of Halahila Main. Work under consideration includes step-out drilling along strike and at depth, down-hole electromagnetic surveying, and testing other gossans and conductors along the Halahila trend. These activities remain under consideration and were not reported as completed.
#Project and Saudi exploration portfolio
The 33 km² Halahila Project is located within the Kutam-Al Masane VMS Belt of the southern Asir Terrane, approximately 45 kilometres south of the Al Masane VMS mine.
Sun Peak said its Saudi Arabian portfolio consists of 13 exploration licences totalling 1,072 km², with two additional licence applications covering approximately 200 km². The company has also reported maiden drilling results from its Safra VMS Project.

Sun Peak stated that there can be no assurance that future exploration will result in a mineral discovery or establish a mineral resource. The company also identified risks linked to political stability in Ethiopia and the Middle Eastern region, equity financing markets and the results of future exploration activities.
