MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ:MVIS) has announced an expanded collaboration with FieldAI covering autonomous robotics programmes in government and industrial applications. The development follows testing by FieldAI’s Federal team and the purchase of MicroVision MOVIA sensors for further development and evaluation work.

#Testing across ground and aerial systems

FieldAI has assessed MicroVision’s IRIS long-range lidar sensor on autonomous ground vehicles. The companies have also demonstrated a perception setup using the Robinson Unmanned Spirit drone platform and MicroVision’s MOVIA Air Plus sensor.

That configuration is designed to produce real-time, colorized 3D lidar mapping integrated with ATAK. FieldAI said its testing has covered uncrewed ground and aerial systems as it considers further uses for MicroVision’s sensing products.

#Expanded evaluation activity

FieldAI has bought MOVIA sensors for development and evaluation initiatives spanning its Federal and Industrial organisations. The company said its next phase of assessment will examine potential opportunities for wider use of MicroVision’s perception systems across those programmes.

No broader adoption has been announced. The companies are exploring how MicroVision’s long-range, short-range and aerial perception technologies could be used alongside FieldAI’s autonomy software and robotics expertise.

#Applications under review

The collaboration involves potential applications including autonomous mobility, navigation, mapping, obstacle detection and mission execution on government and industrial robotic platforms.

MicroVision describes its portfolio as including lidar-based hardware and software for industrial, security and defense, and automotive markets. Its products include short- and long-range lidar systems, solid-state sensors, sensor architectures and open software solutions.

#FieldAI background

FieldAI develops autonomous robotic systems for government and industrial applications. The company says its Field Foundation Models combine data-driven artificial intelligence with physics-based reasoning and uncertainty awareness for use across different robots and tasks.

FieldAI has raised over $400 million from investors including Bezos Expeditions, Emerson Collective, Khosla Ventures, Canaan Partners, NVentures, Prysm Capital and Temasek, among others.
