Dermata Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:DRMA) has reported topline findings from a completed cosmetic study of Tome Foundational Treatment, its once-weekly skin renewal product. The open-label study involved 31 participants who used the treatment once a week for four weeks.

#Study findings

The company said more than 71% of participants were graded as showing an overall improvement in skin appearance after one treatment. Investigators assessed participants at multiple points during the study, including measures related to fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, smoothness, firmness, radiance and overall appearance.

Participant feedback after four treatments indicated that 93% agreed the product was comparable to a professional in-office procedure. Dermata also reported that 90% agreed they had seen more noticeable results compared with other products.

#Tolerability and product design

Dermata reported that the treatment was well tolerated in the study, with no treatment-related adverse events reported.

Tome Foundational Treatment is designed for weekly use and is intended to renew the appearance of skin while improving tone and texture over time. The product uses Bioneedle™, which Dermata describes as a material consisting of 100% freshwater sponge. The company says the sponge is wild harvested and minimally processed into a fine, purified powder.

#Dermata’s skincare business

Dermata develops direct-to-consumer and professional skincare products, drawing on its experience in clinical dermatology and its Bioneedle technology. The company identifies Tome Foundational Treatment as its first commercial product.

The treatment is available as a one-time purchase covering four weekly treatments or through a subscription programme at a discounted price, according to Dermata. The company is headquartered in San Diego, California.

#Management comments and stated risks

Gerry Proehl, Dermata’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, said the findings provided clinical support for the company’s approach to Tome and its once-weekly format. He also said Dermata was encouraged by the product’s reception following its launch and intended to continue building awareness of the brand.

Dermata cautioned that statements concerning future product launches, market acceptance, commercialisation and the use of study results in marketing activities are subject to risks and uncertainties. The company said actual events or results could differ materially from those statements.
