Marimaca Copper Corp. has promoted Peter Garner-Winship to Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. The appointment comes as the company prepares to advance its Marimaca Oxide Deposit in northern Chile.
#Garner-Winship takes over finance leadership
Garner-Winship joined Marimaca Copper in March 2026 as Vice President, Finance. Before that, he spent 17 years at Anglo American, where he held senior positions covering corporate finance, strategic planning and capital allocation.
His previous experience also includes serving as Financial Controller for the US$5.5 billion Quellaveco copper project in Peru. In that role, he helped establish the project organisation and finance function during construction and the move into operations.
Hayden Locke, Marimaca Copper’s CEO and a director, said Garner-Winship would draw on that experience to develop the company’s financial controls and systems. Locke also referred to Garner-Winship’s background in financial reporting, capital allocation and risk management.
#Merino to remain Managing Director (Chile)
José Antonio Merino will continue as Managing Director (Chile). The company said he will retain responsibility for supporting the advancement of the Marimaca Oxide Deposit and the regional development and permitting strategy.
Marimaca Copper said Merino has been part of its management team since 2022. His work has included environmental permits, water supply, power connections, commercial negotiations, a self-produced sulphuric acid strategy and other commercial initiatives.
According to the company, the transfer of CFO responsibilities will enable Merino to concentrate on the in-country development of the Marimaca Oxide Deposit, along with operational, permitting and growth activities in Chile.
#Marimaca Copper’s Chilean assets
Marimaca Copper is listed on the TSX under the ticker MARI and on the ASX under the ticker MC2. The company focuses on copper assets in northern Chile, with the Marimaca Oxide Deposit Project as its main asset in the Antofagasta region.
The company also controls exploration properties at Pampa Medina and Madrugador in the Sierra de Medina region, 30 kilometers from the Marimaca Oxide Deposit. Marimaca Copper said recent drilling at those properties identified oxide extensions and high-grade sulphide mineralisation at depth.
#Forward-looking risks
Marimaca Copper cautioned that statements about the development of the Marimaca Oxide Deposit and the PADA Plant are forward-looking and may not prove accurate. It said actual results and future events could differ materially from those anticipated.
The risks identified by the company include delays or a failure to advance development activities at the Marimaca Oxide Deposit, PADA Plant development and related capital costs, the proposed formal joint venture with Noracid, financing requirements and costs, permitting procedures and timing, fluctuating metal, sulphuric acid and elemental sulphur prices, project delays, cost overruns and unexpected operating costs.
