Smart Chemical supplies production chemicals to onshore oil and gas operators. Its activities also include custom-tailored chemical solutions for fuel additives, agriculture, water treatment and industrial applications.
Polymer Technologies is headquartered in Plainville, Kansas, and has provided polymer-gel well services to oil and gas operators since 1989. Its treatments are designed to locate and seal fractures, high-permeability channels, casing leaks and other routes through which water can move within a well or reservoir.
The acquisition extends Smart Chemical’s oilfield offering beyond production chemicals, fuel additives and water treatment. The expanded portfolio will include well-intervention and water conformance solutions.
According to the announcement, the businesses will provide production chemicals, water treatment programmes and polymer-gel conformance treatments, together with field service and technical application expertise. Polymer Technologies’ treatments are intended to reduce unwanted water production, lower water handling and disposal costs, and improve the economics of existing wells.
Smart Chemical Chief Executive Officer Billy Smith described Polymer Technologies’ technology as complementary to Smart Chemical’s existing production chemicals and said it addresses an issue faced by operators.
Christopher Lee, Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director of Gladstone Investment, said Polymer Technologies brings proprietary, field-proven technology and an experienced team that fits Smart Chemical’s strategy of adding differentiated products and services for customers.
Gladstone Investment is a publicly traded business development company that seeks to make equity and secured debt investments in lower middle market businesses in connection with acquisitions, changes in control and recapitalisations.
The company said statements concerning the longer-term prospects of Gladstone Investment, Smart Chemical, Polymer Technologies and their management teams, as well as their ability to grow and expand, are forward-looking statements. It cautioned that actual results and conditions could differ materially because of risks and uncertainties, including factors described in its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
