AI Financial Corporation (Nasdaq:AIFC)(FRA:5AR1) has announced that its biotech segment will be rebranded as Drew Therapeutics Corporation, a name chosen to honour Andrew Witkoff, the brother of Chairman Zach Witkoff. Andrew Witkoff died from an opioid overdose in 2011 at the age of 22.

The business currently operates under the Alyea Therapeutics Corporation name. AI Financial said the biotech segment is intended to become a separate, independent public company, as previously announced.

#New identity linked to non-opioid pain research

AI Financial said the new identity reflects the biotech business’s work on treatments for pain that do not rely on opioids. Its stated tagline is “From Pain Comes Purpose,” which the company associated with opioid-awareness efforts, support for families affected by addiction and research into alternative pain treatments.

Chief Executive Officer Tony Isaac said Andrew Witkoff’s story supports the company’s focus on developing non-addictive painkillers. Chairman Zach Witkoff said he hoped Andrew’s name would continue to inspire work on alternatives to addictive drugs.

AI Financial said more than 700,000 Americans had died from opioids over the past 10 years. The company also cited figures stating that Americans represent 5 percent of the world’s population while consuming 80% of the world’s oxycodone.

#Drew Therapeutics development programmes

Drew Therapeutics is focused on non-opioid treatments for chronic pain. Its lead investigational programme is a proprietary low-dose naltrexone formulation for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The programme has received FDA orphan drug designation and is advancing through clinical development.

The company is also developing the Drew Clear Patch, a topical technology intended for targeted, non-invasive pain treatment. The biotech business is led by Dr. Amol Soin, whom AI Financial identifies as a pain management research and applications specialist. The company said Dr. Soin is the inventor of Biphasic release of Low-Dose Naltrexone and the Clear Patch topical application technology.

#Further announcements and stated risks

Isaac said the rebranding was the first in a series of pending announcements and that further initiatives would be introduced in the weeks ahead in connection with the company’s strategic plans for stockholders.

AI Financial’s forward-looking statements are subject to risks involving changes in the market price and trading volume of its common stock, volatility affecting WLFI tokens and other digital assets, and limits on the transfer, pledging, staking, lending or other use of its WLFI holdings. The company also cited the availability and terms of financing or liquidity arrangements, digital-asset custody, collateralisation, staking, lending, counterparty and protocol risks, access to capital, technology development or integration, execution under a new corporate identity and ticker symbol, market conditions and regulatory developments.

AI Financial said actual results could differ materially from forward-looking statements and referred to additional risks in its Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
